They are taking on the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ to raise money for Demelza, a charity that LGT works closely with. As they conquer new heights for this very good cause, we speak to Anyès Sineux-Reading, Corporate Partnerships Account Manager at Demelza , about the charity’s incredible work and how they put the funds raised to work.

Will: What does Demelza do?

Anyès: We deliver extraordinary care to extraordinary children facing serious or life-limiting conditions. We’re here to support the children and their families from first diagnosis and for as long as they need. We offer practical, emotional support to the families, along with therapeutic sessions. We have two hospices, one in Sittingbourne, Kent, and one in Eltham, London, as well as a community hub in East Sussex where we deliver the same services as the hospices but in the home environment. Services we offer are tailor-made, different for each family who comes to us.

Symptom management:

Symptom management is about helping to improve the comfort and quality of life for children living with a serious or terminal condition, or who are at the end of their life.

Short breaks/respite care:

Our short breaks and day care can be of benefit to the whole family. We offer short breaks at home, overnight short breaks in the hospice, and day care in the home, community and in the hospice.

End of life care:

Our nursing and family support teams are available to help you think about the choices you may wish to consider at this time.

What are some the projects you have recently completed?

This year, we are taking delivery of a brand new multi-purpose building in Sittingbourne, which has been designed to be a unique and versatile place to welcome our children and families. It will also play a part in developing our new transition programme for children who are reaching adulthood: some of the rooms are equipped with ‘independent living’ in mind.

How does fundraising help these projects be successful?

The support of corporate organisations like LGT helps us towards the delivery of our five-year strategy.

We are looking at sustainability, taking more children and families, and recruiting nurses. Corporate fundraising support is a lifeline to our business and helps us plan and budget for the future.

Engagement from staff also allows us to demonstrate what we do and how we work, spreading the awareness of the services we provide. LGT staff have been amazing at fundraising and caring for our organisation. More than help, it’s a real partnership where both organisations can align ethos and ethics.

What are the future projected you have planned?

We rely on funding from private organisations as we get very little funding from central government. Corporate supports like LGT help us run our hospices on a daily basis and provide revenues for our core funding.

We always need funding for recruiting specialist nurses and therapists. The important factor is for Demelza to have access to unrestricted funding so we can use the money as we need. For example, we might need to put some air con units in our new building or we might need to buy some special medical equipment for the hospice.

We step up to the Three Peaks Challenge

On 13th October 2023, 26 employees at LGT are taking on the infamous Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Demelza. This challenge involves summiting the highest peaks in England (Scafell pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis) and Wales (Snowdon), all within 24 hours. This is not only a physical challenge, but logistically demanding with 26 of us attempting it at once - no one left behind!

It has been a tremendous effort from all involved to get us even to the bottom of the first summit. Preparations have spanned long training runs and hikes, organising travel between the Peaks and, of course, ensuring participants have selected their all-important pre-hike meals.

Now, all that is left is the easy part: completing the challenge….

We are filled with excitement and pride in equal measures to announce we have now surpassed our original lofty fundraising target. As an additional incentive, LGT Wealth Management will be matching all donations.
