LGT Wealth Management, one of the leading wealth managers in the UK, marks the fifth anniversary of its Sustainable Model Portfolio Service (SMPS) with a growing team, access to LGT Group’s global sustainable investment resources, and a strong partnership with the adviser community.
Launched in 2018, the SMPS was among the first to adopt a positive approach by targeting investments with sustainable outcomes, rather than simply excluding those with negative impact. The team has grown from one to eight people, including the strategic appointment of Ben Palmer earlier this year from Brooks Macdonald, who joined as Lead Portfolio Manager to further enhance the sustainable investment proposition. The team is supported by the wider LGT Wealth Management investment and research teams, along with LGT Private Banking's global sustainable investing platform.
The SMPS utilises a structured and robust process exploring the links between sustainability considerations and economic outcomes to mitigate risk and leverage opportunities for strong risk-adjusted returns over the long term. This in-depth qualitative research is supported by LGT Wealth Management’s proprietary sustainability data tool for comprehensive analysis of portfolio holdings and investment opportunities. LGT Wealth Management’s investment process has resulted in strong risk-adjusted 5-year performance numbers helping to dispel the myth that sustainable investment means sacrificing returns.
LGT Wealth Management is committed to driving improved governance, and financial, environmental and social performance through its extensive stewardship activities directly with investments, as part of collaborative initiatives, and through policy advocacy.
Phoebe Stone, Head of Sustainable Investing and Intermediary Investment Services at LGT Wealth Management, commented: “Sustainable investing has evolved greatly over the past five years and will continue to do so. As a pioneer in sustainable investing, we consider education a key part of our role in advancing the sustainability agenda and work closely with clients and advisers on this.
“The investment industry and wider economy need to adapt to the rapid pace of change in sustainability. We have evolved our approach to embrace complexity and nuance and remain at the forefront of the sustainable investment market. We continually assess this dynamic landscape through our local and global resources to ensure we deploy capital effectively for clients, with an authentic commitment, strong investment philosophy, and robust frameworks.”
